Flood recovery works continue in Myall Lakes National Park and surrounds

Department media release Park management National Parks and Wildlife Service News and media releases

Visitors can enjoy parts of Myall Lakes National Park these school holidays, but some campgrounds remain closed as rebuilding efforts continue following severe weather damage in May.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has recently reopened five campgrounds across the Myall Lakes including sites at The Wells, Yagon, Mungo South, Stewart and Lloyds and Bungarie Bay.

NPWS continues to prioritise restoring key infrastructure, including toilets. Several sites remain closed as NPWS finalises plans for safe rebuilding, while some now have different facilities to those prior to the floods, including portable toilets and no barbecues.

Campgrounds currently closed include:

  • Brambles Green
  • Dees Corner
  • Joes Cove
  • Mackaway Bay
  • White Tree Bay.

NPWS will reopen these campgrounds once conditions are safe and service standards are met.

All campsites must be booked online, and visitors are reminded that entry into closed areas is prohibited, with penalties applying for non-compliance.

Before visiting, please check for any alerts including park fire bans prior to setting off on holidays to ensure you are well prepared at www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au.

Quotes attributable to NPWS Hunter Central Coast Acting Director Mitch Carter:

“Our facilities might look a little different but there’s still plenty of opportunities for visitors to get outdoors and enjoy what Myall Lakes National Park has to offer this summer.

“As always, we ask our visitors check our Alerts page for updates on closures before setting out. Just go to NSW National Parks Alerts.”
