Hazard reduction burn in Brimbin Nature Reserve near Taree
The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting hazard reduction burning in Brimbin Nature Reserve tomorrow, Friday 4 September, through to Tuesday 8 September 2026, subject to suitable weather conditions.
The aim of the 150 hectare burn is to manage fuel loads in Brimbin Nature Reserve and reduce the chance of wildfire impacts to the park, neighbours and the Brimbin community.
All tracks and trails within the burn area will be closed for the duration of the burn, including Sundial Trail, McKies Trail and Railway Trail. This includes informal tracks and trails. Tracks will be reopened once they have been assessed as safe.
Traffic management will be in place along Brimbin Road. Motorists are reminded to drive to conditions and are advised to take care if visibility is reduced by smoke.
Smoke may affect the area and people with asthma or other respiratory problems are advised to keep clear of the area or stay indoors, close windows and doors, and follow their health plan.
This burn is one of many hazard reduction operations undertaken by NPWS across NSW each year, many with assistance from the Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW.
These hazard reduction burns are essential to reduce bushfire fuel loads to help protect the parks, their natural and cultural values, neighbours and communities from summer bushfires.
People with known health conditions can sign up to receive air quality reports, forecasts and alerts via email or SMS from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
