Hazard reductions for Blue Mountains and Wollemi National Parks

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) with assistance from the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), is undertaking two large hazard reduction burns in Blue Mountains and Wollemi National Parks starting on Wednesday 1 April.

The operations are part of an ongoing burn program and will reduce the hazard across:

• 1,000 hectares in Massif Ridge near Glenbrook and
• 470 hectares south of Upper Colo Road and east of Comleroy Road

The burns will help reduce the spread of bushfires and improve protection of neighbouring properties while maintaining biodiversity.

The favourable autumn weather conditions provide a critical opportunity for fuel reduction burning.

For their safety, the public should not enter closed areas while the operation is underway. The Oaks fire trail in Blue Mountains National Park will be closed to public access during this time.

NPWS along with neighbours and other agencies has numerous prescribed burns, including cultural burns, planned across NSW.
