Department media release Hazard reduction burn National Parks and Wildlife Service Fire News and media releases

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), with assistance from the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), is undertaking a large hazard reduction burn in Upper Colo area of Wollemi National Park starting today, Thursday 23 April.

The 670-hectare burn will complete the hazard reduction activities of a 1100-hectare block.  430 hectares were successfully completed earlier in the month.

Gees Arm North hazard reduction is located south of Upper Colo Road and east of Comleroy Road.

The aim of these burns is to help management of bushfires in Wollemi National Park and improve protection of neighbouring properties while maintaining biodiversity.

NPWS, along with other agencies, has numerous prescribed burns planned across NSW.

For their safety, the public should not enter closed areas while the operations are underway.

Roads and trails will be reopened once the areas are assessed as safe. Visitors must check NPWS Alerts for up-to-date information on closures.

People with known health conditions can sign up to receive air quality reports, forecasts and alerts via email or SMS from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.

More information on hazard reduction activities is available at NSW Rural Fire Service and the NSW Government's Hazards Near Me website and app.
