Government Building Retrofit Program evaluation

The Government Building Retrofit Program helped government agencies improve the water and energy efficiency of government-owned and tenanted buildings.

The small sites program was run as a pilot during 2010 to 2012 at sites in the Hunter, Illawarra and Sydney regions. The large sites program provided seed funding to the NSW Government’s largest energy-using services to develop energy savings projects.

Why this matters…

The Government Building Retrofit Program is an excellent example of how the NSW government can save energy.

  • Police stations saved between 11 and 26 per cent electricity in under a year.
  • The Australian Museum saved 23.7 per cent in electricity over 13 months.
  • Westmead Hospital saved 12.7 per cent over 18 months.
  • Myuna Bay Sport and Recreation Centre saved 9.1 per cent over 18 months.
