The authority is committed to addressing the threat from marine debris through an initiative of the Marine Estate Management Strategy.
Our scientists are working with other researchers to undertake a marine debris threat and risk assessment. This assessment aims to identify what types of marine debris are the greatest threats to our marine wildlife and to the values that society derives from the marine estate.
Overseen by a working group of experts in the field, the marine debris threat and risk assessment is examining the likelihood and consequences of impacts from marine debris that are the most significant to wildlife and other environmental and social values as illustrated below. It will assist in prioritising actions to help tackle the most important marine debris issues in New South Wales.
