Regional parks are managed to identify, conserve and promote the appreciation of natural and cultural values whilst providing sustainable uses and visitation.

The park boundaries will be subject to change in coming years as new land acquisitions are negotiated. Two former Airservices Australia sites at Shanes Park and Cranebrook are likely to be added to the Wianamatta Regional Park. Located to the northeast of the park, Shanes Park is an area of some 400 hectares formerly operated by Airservices Australia as an international radio transmitting station. The site is included on the Commonwealth Heritage List and the Australian Heritage Places Inventory (formerly the Register of the National Estate) for its natural values.
