Biodiversity Values Map review

Landholders wanting detailed information about biodiversity values on their land can apply for a Biodiversity Values Explanation Report and can apply for a review if they disagree with those map values.

Biodiversity Values Explanation Report

A Biodiversity Values Explanation Report provides detailed information about the different data layers applying to a property. It explains the basis for inclusion of land on the Biodiversity Values Map. The Biodiversity Values Explanation Report package includes a report and maps identifying the contributing data layers.

The Types of land on the Biodiversity Values Map guide describes each of the types of land that can be included on the Biodiversity Values Map.

A Biodiversity Values Explanation Report can be provided to a person who owns, lawfully occupies, leases or manages the property, or their nominated agent. Local Councils or the Native Vegetation Panel may also apply for a Biodiversity Values Explanation Report on a property subject to a development or clearing application.

There is no fee for an explanation report and applications are usually completed within 10-15 working days.

Biodiversity Values Map Review

If you consider the biodiversity values are mapped incorrectly on your land you can apply for a Map Review. We recommend applying for a Biodiversity Values Explanation Report before applying for a Map Review.

A map review allows landholders to provide extra information to help reviewers assess the map's accuracy. The Map Review Team can provide advice on what supporting information would assist with your map review. Supporting information may include photos, maps, ecological reports or approved development consent documents where available.

Depending on the Biodiversity Value being reviewed, the land may need to be inspected by an expert to gather further information to support the map review. In some cases, an assessment may be referred to another government agency, particularly where the Biodiversity Value is governed by other legislation. The Map Review Team will manage this process for you.

Once the map review assessment is complete, you will be provided with updated maps for your property and will be provided with a report that outlines any changes to the mapping. A map review may result in an increase or decrease of the mapped area, or it may remain unchanged.

A map review application can only be made by a person who owns, lawfully occupies, leases or manages the property. An agent can be appointed to assist with the map review process.

There is no fee for a map review.
