Biodiversity credits public registers

The department maintains public registers with information about biodiversity credits supply, demand and transactions created under the current Biodiversity Offsets Scheme and the previous BioBanking Scheme. These registers support the operation of the biodiversity credits market by helping to:

  • connect credit buyers and sellers
  • provide market information and support for participants
  • increase market transparency.

To understand all credits in the NSW market, please refer to both the current Biodiversity Offsets Scheme registers and the BioBanking Scheme registers.  Credits and obligations created under the previous BioBanking Scheme remain valid in New South Wales under transitional arrangements.

The Biodiversity Conservation Trust also maintains a separate Credits Wanted List and a register of all private land conservation agreements, which includes Biodiversity Stewardship Agreements created under the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme, and other conservation agreements and wildlife refuges.

Credit Supply Register – for sellers

The Biodiversity Offsets Scheme Credit Supply Register details the number, type and location of credits that sellers have available for purchase. It includes:

  • issued credits
  • pending credits (which need assessment or approval)
  • expressions of interest (potential credit supply)
  • equivalent credits (BioBanking credits issued under the previous scheme) that have been subject to a determination of reasonable credit equivalence; these are only displayed if the owner of the credits has elected to display the equivalent current Biodiversity Offsets Scheme credits on this register.

The Credit Supply Register is also available as a point-in-time Excel download [XLS 4.5MB].

This is a voluntary register, so not all demand is displayed. If you are a potential buyer and would like to list your credits wanted on this register, email [email protected].

  • date of the transaction.

It also includes:

  • details of credit retirements – note that once a credit is retired it cannot be bought or sold again, and it cannot be used again to offset a development obligation

BioBanking public registers (the previous scheme)

The current Biodiversity Offsets Scheme replaces the previous BioBanking Scheme, but existing Biobanking credits and obligations are maintained under transitional arrangements. Learn about BioBanking transitional arrangements.

You can apply to have BioBanking credits and obligations generated under the previous BioBanking scheme assessed for reasonable equivalence as biodiversity credits and obligations under the current Biodiversity Offsets Scheme.
