The public registers support the operation of the biodiversity credit market by helping to connect credit buyers and sellers while increasing market transparency.
Biodiversity Offsets Scheme public registers
The BOS public registers are:
Credit supply register – details of the number, type and location of credits available for purchase. This register includes Expressions of Interest (potential credit supply), pending credits (those which need assessment/approval) and issued credits.
Credit demand register – details of the number, type and location of credits which are required. This register includes credits wanted (potential credit demand) and pending credits (those which need assessment/approval).
Transactions register – information about BOS credit transfers and retirements including credit type, number, price and date as well as suspensions and cancellations.
Accredited assessors register – provides contact details for individuals accredited to prepare assessments of biodiversity values under the BOS.
Private land conservation agreements register – details of private land conservation agreements with the Biodiversity Conservation Trust.
Arrangements are in place to ensure a smooth transition to the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme. Transitional arrangements provide for the continuation of both credits and credit obligations created under the Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995 (TSC Act). There is also provision for the Environment Agency Head to determine the reasonably equivalent biodiversity credits or biodiversity credit obligation under the BC Act. Go to the Transitional arrangements page for more information about the transitional arrangements that are in place, including equivalence between BioBanking credits and BOS credits.
BioBanking public registers
The BOS has replaced the BioBanking scheme, but transitional arrangements provide for the continuation of both credits and credit obligations created under the TSC Act. The BioBanking public registers will continue to be used to provide information on BioBanking credit transactions, BioBanking agreements, statements and created under the TSC Act. See the BioBanking public registers.
