The NSW Government has been preparing for the potential impacts of H5 bird flu on wildlife across New South Wales. As part of this work, plans have been developed for priority sites and species considered most vulnerable to the disease.
The plans help guide preparedness, surveillance and response activities for H5 bird flu detections in wildlife. They focus on locations that support large numbers of waterbirds, seabirds, shorebirds and other species known to be at greater risk of disease impacts.
The sites and species listed below have been identified as priorities for H5 bird flu in New South Wales. The list is current as of August 2026 and may be updated as we learn more about the impacts of H5 bird flu on wildlife in New South Wales.
