Our investment includes the development and maintenance of a number of databases that are important to the management of NSW vegetation, soils and animals; including threatened species.
Databases
Vegetation
The NSW Vegetation information system (VIS) contains information about the classification and mapping of native vegetation in NSW. The VIS is used by Local Land Services (LLS), local government and various state agencies as well as individuals to improve planning and decision-making for native vegetation. VIS is accessed through BioNet.
Soils
The NSW Soil and Land Information System (SALIS) describes soils, landscapes and other geographic features, and is used by the NSW Government, other organisations and individuals to improve planning and decision-making for land management. SALIS includes both physical and chemical soil data as well as map data, reports and images.
Native plants and animals
BioNet is the database capturing information about the plants and animals of NSW. BioNet is used by the NSW Government, other organisations and individuals to improve planning and decision-making about native plants and animals; including threatened species.
The Saving our Species program sets out threatened species management plans for species across NSW and provides targeted conservation projects that specify the actions required to save particular species or populations at a management site.
