Under section 4.38 of the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016, the NSW Threatened Species Scientific Committee is a NSW Government agency. All agencies in New South Wales are required to have a Public Interest Disclosure Policy under section 42 of the Public Interest Disclosures Act 2022.

The committee encourages reports of serious wrongdoing and is committed to high standards of ethical behaviour and accountable conduct. We are committed to building a ‘speak up’ culture where public officials are encouraged to report any conduct that they reasonably believe involves wrongdoing.

Reporting serious wrongdoing

To make a report of serious wrongdoing, you may:

The integrity of our committee relies on our staff and committee members speaking up when they become aware of wrongdoing. Where possible and appropriate, the identity of anyone making a disclosure will be kept confidential and they will be informed of progress and the outcome. Reports will be dealt with in a prompt, thorough and impartial way and, if serious wrongdoing is found, action will be taken.

Public interest disclosure functions

The committee has an agreement with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) that states DCCEEW will support the committee to exercise its public interest disclosure functions in accordance with section 81 of the Public Interest Disclosures Act. Details of this agreement, along with DCCEEW’s Public Interest Disclosure Policy, are available at Information access, governance and feedback.
