Many Aboriginal Heritage Information Management System (AHIMS) records are created by community members, archaeologists and consultants during cultural heritage assessments, surveys and the development process.

You can record a new site using the AHIMS mobile phone app or the AHIMS Site Quarantine Station desktop platform.

Use the mobile app

The AHIMS Site Recording app allows you to record Aboriginal sites using your mobile device.

The app helps ensure site information is recorded consistently and more accurately.

When you submit a site record through the app:

  • a site card is automatically created using the information you provide
  • your name is recorded as the site 'recorder' in AHIMS.

Use the desktop platform

The AHIMS Quarantine Station desktop platform allows you to submit and manage information about Aboriginal sites from a desktop computer.

You can use it to:

  • view site cards you have created
  • import extensive search results from AHIMS for use in the mobile app and during fieldwork
  • submit Aboriginal site impact recording forms for sites impacted as part of archaeological investigations or authorised activities under an Aboriginal heritage impact permit
  • report impacts to recorded Aboriginal sites caused by natural events, such as bushfires or floods
  • record accidental or unauthorised impacts to recorded sites.
