Update December 2020

Stage Two completed.

Stage Two works between Little Beach and Mourawaring Moor has been completed, and the track will be reopened by Christmas. This section of the walk has been completed by contractors, Toolijooa Environmental Restoration. The work included installing about 260 sandstone steps to improve safety and visitor access. A wooden bridge has also been installed across the creek and a side track that takes you to a lookout.

The track hugs the trees as it meanders down from the moors down through littoral forest. It wanders through different vegetation types then out to an open area where visitors will have excellent views over Little Beach and the rock platform from the lookout site.

We wanted to thank the public for their patience throughout this construction period. We are pleased to advise the track has now reopened just in time for the summer holidays.

Before: This steep section of the track near Little Beach was eroded from water runoff and high visitation.

Next steps: Stage Three

The next scheduled work will be carried out between Gerrin Point and the northern end of Smugglers Bay. There are about 13 sections between these points that will be upgraded to improve access and visitor safety. This will include the installation of new sandstone steps and a passing area that will serve as a lookout point, allowing people to enjoy fantastic views to the south. These works are scheduled to commence in March 2021.

Temporary closures

Temporary closures will be required for Stage three. Details will be advised closer to construction time.

All alerts for closures will be on the NPWS website.

High numbers expected during summer holidays

This year has seen significant increase in visitors using the Bouddi Coastal Walk, as people discover the amazing destinations here in their own backyard. We are expecting this increase to continue through the summer holiday period. We will continue to monitor track usage during this period. Pedestrian counters are placed along the track to monitor numbers. We have prepared a Summer Safe COVID plan which will address safe use of the area abiding by COVID restrictions as they change.
