Light to Light Walk
The Light to Light Walk continues to welcome visitors as we head into the winter months, with the cooler weather an ideal time to experience the walk. The whale watching season from May to October is also a great opportunity to spot whales, with key viewing points at Boyds Tower, Bittangabee Bay and Green Cape Lookout.

Update on upgrades at Green Cape Lightstation Precinct
The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is progressing Stage 1 works on site, with rising damp works completed and structural works nearing completion. Carpentry repair works to the Head Lightkeeper's and Assistant Lightkeeper’s buildings are progressing on site: rotten timbers have been replaced with new hardwood, matched to the original species used on the buildings.
Roof replacement works have commenced on the Powerhouse building, with roofing works to the Head Lightkeeper’s building to follow. Chimney repairs have also been completed on the Head Lightkeeper’s building, with repair works to commence on the Assistant Lightkeeper’s building.
NPWS has also engaged a specialist contractor to undertake safe removal of hazardous materials on site, including asbestos and failed lead paint layers on the walls of the buildings. This means that the completion of works is now delayed until late 2026 and may be subject to weather and other potential construction delays. We will continue to provide updates about Stage 1 works as the works progress.
The Lightstation cottages and Telegraph Station accommodation are currently closed to visitors while NPWS undertakes upgrades to these buildings. Green Cape car park, lookout and surrounding walking tracks will remain open during this time. Green Cape Lookout can be accessed via the boardwalk at the end of the Green Cape Carpark.
NPWS is continuing with heritage approvals for Stage 2 of the upgrade works. These include essential upgrades to the existing gas, electricity and sewerage systems that service the Green Cape Lightstation Precinct as well as the remediation of a landslip that occurred in 2022. These works are crucial for the ongoing safety, functionality and access to the Green Cape Lightstation Precinct.
Green Cape Lighthouse reinstatement
Following the Green Cape Lighthouse reinstatement in February 2026, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has now completed the removal of the old lattice tower from Green Cape Lookout.
The lighthouse is now open for guided tours. Bookings can be made at Green Cape Lighthouse guided tour.
