Light to Light Walk

Since opening in May 2025, the Light to Light Walk has welcomed over 2,000 visitors to experience the new campgrounds, upgraded track and new track sections.

There are various options available on the Light to Light Walk, including shorter walks such as the Boyds Tower walking track, half-day Green Cape loop walking track or multi-day options where you can camp at campgrounds such as Saltwater Creek or Bittangabee Bay. Bookings can be made via the Light to Light webpage.

Update on upgrade works at Green Cape Lightstation Precinct

The Lightstation cottages and Telegraph Station accommodation are currently closed to visitors while the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) undertakes upgrades to these buildings. Green Cape car park, lookout and surrounding walking tracks will remain open during this time.

During Stage 1 works, NPWS identified additional structural works required to the Head and Assistant Lightkeeper’s buildings which are currently under further investigation. These works are critical to ensure the safety of visitors in the building and must be completed for other works to continue.

Stage 1 works are currently delayed while engineering advice and heritage approvals are finalised. They are now estimated to be complete in mid-2026, subject to weather and other potential construction delays. We will continue to provide updates about Stage 1 works as a priority.

NPWS is also continuing to plan for Stage 2 of the upgrade works. These include upgrades to the existing gas, electricity and sewerage systems that service the Green Cape Lightstation Precinct, as well as the remediation of a landslip that occurred in 2022. Further archaeological investigations were completed in March and April 2025. NPWS is currently working with Heritage NSW to process heritage approvals for this stage.

These works are crucial for safety and access to the Green Cape Lightstation Precinct.

Green Cape Lighthouse reinstatement

NPWS is continuing to work in collaboration with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority to reinstate the Green Cape Lighthouse. Works commenced in January and are expected to be complete in February.

A Review of Environmental Factors (REF) has been published on the NSW Environment and Heritage website. The Review of Environmental Factors provides more information on the proposed activity and permissibility.

The lighthouse will be temporarily closed during works and will reopen for Discovery Tours once works are completed.
