The plan of management explained

Parks and reserves established under the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974 (NPW Act) are required to have a plan of management. The plan is a legal document that includes information on important park values and provides directions for future management.

Under Part 5 of the NPW Act, a draft plan of management is prepared by NPWS and publicly exhibited. After public exhibition, the draft plan and any public submissions are reviewed by statutory advisory bodies who may provide advice to the Minister for the Environment. The final plan may be adopted by the minister after considering the submissions made and any advice from the statutory advisory bodies.

Reasons for the plan

A plan of management identifies and considers the park's important values and threats, then decides on appropriate management objectives and effective strategies to achieve those objectives.

A plan of management provides an opportunity for the local Aboriginal community, park visitors, neighbours and other stakeholders to engage on and have a say about how the parks will be managed into the future, and therefore an essential tool for park managers.

How the community can contribute

The community’s views on management of the reserve will help to shape the plan of management. You can contribute by registering your interest in the management of the reserve and commenting on the draft plan when it goes on public exhibition.
