Aerial Spraying of Bitou Bush
(Closure ends Wednesday 31 July)
The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will implement temporary closures for pedestrians and vehicles, in the Myall Lakes National Park for aerial spraying of Bitou Bush. The herbicide to be used is Brush-Off(R) (metsulfuron methyl 600g a.i/kg)
Temporary closures for pedestrians and vehicle include:
- Yacaaba, Yagon and Treachery Headlands, Sugarloaf Point, headland and Islands between Boat and Number One Beaches and Cliffs, between Number One Beach and Yellowrock (south Sandbar Beach)
- Bennett's, Mungo, Yagon, Treachery, Lighthouse, East Boat, Number One and south Sandbar Beaches
- Stewart and Lloyds, Banksia Green, Dee's Corner and Yagon Camping Areas.
- Dark Point, Sandy Point, Hole-in-the-Wall, Dee's Corner, Treachery, Lighthouse, Boat and Number One Beach Carparks.
- Yagon Road and traffic control in place for Seal Rocks and Mungo Brush Roads.
- Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse and pedestrian access.
Spraying and temporary closures are dependent upon weather conditions. National Parks and Wildlife Service staff will be present during spraying operations.
These closures will occur occasionally between 20 May 2013 and 31 July 2013 on days with suitable weather conditions for aerial spraying. Implementation of the aerial spraying programme will take no longer than 15 days in total for the Myall Lakes National Park.
The majority of temporary closures will occur for 1-3 days only.

Hazard reduction burn
To allow for the safe completion of Hazard reduction burning in Myall Lakes NP on Saturday 18 May 2013, the following areas will be closed to all access:
- Sandflat trail
- Redbill trail
- Nerong creek trail
- Burdekins trail (from the park boundary to the eastern end of Burdekins trail)
- River Mouth camping area
In addition, the Myall River, from the river mouth to the Bombah Broadwater extending 7km upstream - will be closed to all vessels. For more information contact NPWS at Pacific Palms on 02 6591 0300.
Temporary winter closure of Stewarts & Lloyds, Mungo south, White Tree Bay and Boomeri camping areas
(Closure ends Friday 13 September)
From the 6 May to the 13 September 2013, when there are fewer visitors in the park, we take advantage of the reduced demand to 'rest' some visitor areas. National Parks undertakes essential park maintenance, project work and pre-fire season hazard reduction during this time. NPWS apologies for any inconvenience.

To complete Hazard Reduction burning - Rivermouth campground
To allow for the safe completion of hazard reduction burning in Myall Lakes National Park, the following trails & camping areas will be closed will be temporarily closed on Saturday 18 May:
- Sandflat trail
- Redbill trail
- Nerong Creek trail
- Burdekins trail
- River Mouth Camping Area
In addition, access to the Myall river will also be restricted - from the river mouth at Bombah Point Broadwater extending 7km upstream.
Hazard reduction burns
Hazard reduction burn
The Great Lakes Area is conducting a hazard reduction burn in the Myall Lakes National Park. This will commence on Tuesday 21 May 2013. The hazard reduction is north west of Nerong Village. The burn area is bordered by Jacks Creek Trail, Red Peppermint Trail and the Pacific Highway. These fire trails will be closed to the public on the day of the burn and for a number of days after implementation. The Pacific Highway will remain open. Smoke may drift over Nerong Village and the Pacific Highway during the burn.
Please exercise caution and comply with signage when driving in this area.
