Overview

Bulagaranda (Mount Yarrowyck) Aboriginal Area was created in February 1983. It covers an area of 589ha. View the detailed park and fire management documents.

Bulagaranda (Mount Yarrowyck) Aboriginal Area protects an Aboriginal cave painting site and much of the natural environment of Mount Yarrowyck. The reserve's Aboriginal cultural walk, a 3km return track, will take you along the granite slopes of the mountain to the cave painting site.

The track will take you through one of the few remnants of natural bushland on the western slopes of the New England Tablelands. The walking track is clear and easy to follow and, apart from one short section, it is level and undemanding.

The name Bulagaranda is derived from words in the Anaiwan language referring to the Turkey dreaming that is associated with the landscape in and surrounding the park.

Getting there

Bulagaranda (Mount Yarrowyck) Aboriginal Area is about a 30 minute drive from Armidale (west) along Bundarra Road. This is a main road that is sealed. The carpark is just off Thunderbolts Way, which is also a main sealed highway. You'll need to walk 3km to access the Aboriginal Area.

These maps give a basic overview of park attractions and facilities, and may not be detailed enough for some activities. We recommend that you buy a topographic map before you go exploring.
