This report is required under clause 18 of the National Environment Protection (Ambient Air Quality) Measure (AAQ NEPM). It presents NSW air quality monitoring data for the 2016 calendar year and assesses them against the requirements of the AAQ NEPM.

The AAQ NEPM:

  • establishes requirements for monitoring air quality
  • prescribes national air quality standards for specified air pollutants, against which air quality can be assessed
  • in recognising that certain events can affect air quality, specifies air quality goals as the maximum number of exceedance days permissible for a specified air pollutant.
