Manobalai Nature Reserve represents a distinct transition between bioregions, lying at the junction of the central western slopes, central tablelands, central coast and north coast botanical divisions. The reserve conserves 13 vegetation communities and is home to a diversity of native animals including 12 species listed as threatened under the Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995, two of which are also listed under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
The hills of Manobalai are also considered of Aboriginal spiritual significance.
