Progress update: Kamay Botany Bay National Park

  • National Parks and Wildlife Service has engaged a contractor to work on upgrades to the Cape Baily walking track. This involves the installation of approximately 500 m of new boardwalk to provide a safer and more comfortable experience for walkers. This work has started, and completion is expected in September 2023.

Progress update: Royal National Park

  • Planning and designing the proposed new campgrounds at Garie and Wattamolla in Royal National Park is underway. Detailed assessments and investigations will support this.
  • Design work for the new link track between Otford Lookout to Bald Hill is underway, including geotechnical assessments.
  • The Royal Coast Track, which forms part of the Great Southern Walk, has several closures in place due to damage, erosion, and upgrade works. These areas will reopen as repairs and works are completed. Please check the current alerts before visiting, as the full track cannot be completed.

Progress update: Illawarra Escarpment State Conservation Area

  • Works on the new Bald Hill to Stanwell Park walking track are expected to be completed by June 2023.
  • We have scheduled the next stage of track works (Wodi Wodi and Forest Walk tracks) to start in the second half 2023.
  • Planning and design of the proposed new campgrounds at Maddens Plains have commenced.

Work between Bald Hill and Stanwell Park has been underway for the past few months
