State Vegetation Type Map release notes

Release notes are published with each update to the State Vegetation Type Map. Release notes are also published with each update of the plant community type master list.

2023 December C2.0M2.0

Access details of changes to the map for Release C2.0M2.0.

This release includes the first annual update of the plant community type (PCT) master list and the State Vegetation Type Map (SVTM). This release of the State Vegetation Type Map aligns with plant community type master list version C2.0. Changes affect eastern New South Wales, including 9 newly approved plant community types and 4 newly decommissioned plant community types.

The release also incorporates ongoing improvement to the State Vegetation Type Map provided by users of the map via the Provide feedback button in SEED and Trees Near Me NSW mobile application.

2022 December C1.1M1.1

This patch release implements 2 minor data changes in the State Vegetation Type Map. Firstly, in areas not currently mapped as a plant community type, the attribute name Not native vegetation has been changed to Not classified. This change is intended to reduce the perception that a location that has not been classified as a plant community type does not contain any native vegetation.

Many areas in New South Wales comprise derived and highly modified native vegetation. You will find these attribute values in the following data fields:

  • PCTName
  • vegetationClass
  • vegetationFormation.

These attributes occur widely across the state. Secondly, there is a geometry linework change for a data error detected around Mudgee Central Tablelands.

The blocky 5 m gridded vector polygon linework has been updated with the smoother original un-gridded vector polygon linework.

The underlying plant community type classification remained unchanged at version C1.1.

2022 September C1.1M1.0

Access details of how we first derived the NSW State Vegetation Type Map and eastern New South Wales plant community type percentage cleared estimates.

This release represents the first open release of the statewide vegetation coverage using the plant community type master list, the finest level in the NSW vegetation classification hierarchy.

This release aligns with plant community type master list version C1.1 incorporating new plot-based plant community types (i.e. quantitative plant community types) in eastern New South Wales. Release C1.1.M1.0 supersedes pre-release versions (State Vegetation Type Map v1.1 and v1.1.1), and prior to that 7 individual regional coverages including:

  • Sydney Metropolitan Area mapping
  • State Vegetation Type Map Border Rivers Gwydir – Namoi
  • State Vegetation Type Map Central West – Lachlan
  • State Vegetation Type Map Riverina – Murray
  • State Vegetation Type Map Western
  • State Vegetation Type Map Central Tablelands
  • State Vegetation Type Map Upper Hunter.
