Dangars Gorge closed for $1 million upgrade
Visitor facilities in the spectacular Dangars Gorge in Oxley Wild Rivers National Park are about to get a $1million upgrade, including construction of a new pedestrian bridge.
While the finished works will enhance the experience for visitors, during construction the entire Dangars Gorge precinct, including access to view Dangars Falls, is now closed for safety until Easter 2026.
The current pedestrian bridge which is regularly inundated during flooding will be replaced with a new, more flood resilient design.
The new bridge will offer visitors the ability to explore and experience Dangars Falls and Mihi Falls during higher flow events and improve opportunities to watch waterbirds and other animals along Salisbury Waters.
The works will involve decommissioning and demolition of the current bridge and heli lifts to enable installation of the new structure.
NPWS will also be improving the campground, walking tracks and signs around the Dangars Gorge precinct.
This $1 million upgrade is supported by the NSW and Australian Government’s Infrastructure Betterment Fund to repair and rebuild public assets directly impacted by natural disasters since 2019.
While we apologise for the extended closure, we encourage visitors to explore and enjoy many other areas of the incredible Oxley Wild Rivers National Park.
There’s plenty to see in surrounding areas such as Long Point, Gara Gorge, Wollomombi Falls, and for the more adventurous 4-wheel drivers, Riverside or Halls Peak.
