The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is planning a hazard reduction burn in Dharawal National Park off Lysaght Road today.

The hazard reduction burn is intended to treat approximately 41-hectares of bushland off Lysaght Road, Wedderburn.

The planned burn will help to improve protection for nearby properties as well as the Wedderburn community in the event of future bushfires.

Planned low to moderate intensity burns also aim to improve the park’s biodiversity and provide safer access for firefighters.

Traffic control will be in place on Lysaght Road for the duration of the burns. Smoke warning and burn in progress signs will also be in place.

Walking tracks to Minerva Pool and the 10B Fire Trail to the Weir will be closed. An alternate location for park users is Jingga Pool via the Jingga Walking Track.

For their safety, the public should not enter this area while the operation is underway. Roads and trails will be reopened once the area is assessed as safe. Visitors must check NPWS Alerts for up to-date information on closures.

Smoke may be visible to visitors in other areas of the national park and from surrounding areas.

Motorists, including those accessing Napper Airfield should use caution when driving on Lysaght and Blackburn Roads.

People with known health conditions can sign up to receive air quality reports, forecasts and alerts via email or SMS from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
