The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is planning a hazard reduction burn in Kooraban National Park at Dignams Creek on Friday 11 April, weather permitting.

This is stage 2 of this hazard reduction burn and will take place over multiple days including burn implementation and post burn mop up. Stage 1 of the burn occurred last month.

The hazard reduction burn intends to treat approximately 579 hectares of bushland located 15 km northeast of Cobargo and 12 km west of Central Tilba off Dignams Creek Road within Kooraban National Park.

The planned burn will help to improve protection for rural properties and the nearby Cobargo, Dignams Creek and Tilba communities in the event of future bushfires.

Planned, low intensity burns also aim to improve the park’s biodiversity and provide safer access for firefighters.

Sections of the Timber Camp Fire Trail at Narira Road, Jeffers Trigg Road, Jillaby Fire Trail, Dignams Creek Road, and Link Road will be closed for the duration of the burn. Road signage will be in place.

For their safety, the public should not enter this area while the operation is underway. Roads and trails will be reopened once the area is assessed as safe. Visitors must check the NPWS Alerts page for up-to-date information on closures.

Smoke may be visible to visitors in other areas of the national park and from surrounding areas, including Cobargo, Dignams Creek, Tilba Tilba and Central Tilba.

Motorists should use caution when driving on the Princess Highway between Tilba and Cobargo.

People with known health conditions can sign up to receive air-quality reports, forecasts and alerts via email or SMS from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
