Hazard reduction burn in Ledknapper Nature Reserve

The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will conduct hazard reduction burns in Ledknapper Nature Reserve near Enngonia from Wednesday 9 September through to Monday 14 September, weather permitting.

A total of 700 hectares across two hazard reduction burns will help reduce fuel loads, minimise the spread of wildfire, and maintain healthy ecosystems in the Ledknapper Nature Reserve.

Spinifex grass burns naturally produce extensive amounts of thick smoke. The smoke will be highly visible from neighbouring properties, as well as the Enngonia and Bourke townships.

It is likely that Dunsandle and Wilganea Roads will be impacted by smoke. While both roads will remain open, motorists are advised to slow down, drive to conditions and observe any safety directions.

Drivers are also advised to keep all vehicle windows rolled up and turn vehicle headlights on to remain visible.
