The 2024 NSW Air Quality Report finds that while most monitoring stations across New South Wales met national air quality standards for key pollutants, several stations recorded exceedances – primarily due to heatwaves, dust and smoke from bushfires, hazard reduction burns and wood heaters. The Clean Air Metric for the Greater Sydney Region and NSW Greater Metropolitan Region was 98 for 2024, and was driven by ozone.
