DECC has a pivotal role in leading the NSW response to climate change which became very active in 2007 with the change in Federal Government policy, the signing of the Kyoto Protocol and a new emphasis in the Council of Australian Governments.
Since July 2007, we have been administering the new NSW Climate Change Fund. It provides $340 million to help households, business and government save energy and water, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. An added emphasis on energy effciency is being promoted through the new Energy Effciency Strategy which was announced in December 2007. This innovative package is designed to help families and businesses save money and reduce the State's growth in energy use and production of greenhouse gas emissions.
