This document provides information on how wild rivers are protected by law, the process involved in the assessment and declaration of wild rivers, and directions this work may take. For example, information on conservation programs that may complement the protection of wild rivers on our parks and reserves.
For a river to be declared wild it must be in a condition similar to that present before the European occupation of Australia.
