The Hawkesbury–Nepean River is one of the most important river systems in New South Wales. It is the largest river/estuary system in the Sydney region, and its complex ecosystems provide habitat for a multitude of native plant and animal species.

The Hawkesbury–Nepean River Environmental Monitoring Program is a long-term water quality monitoring program that operates at a catchment-scale level enabling a broad-scale assessment of river health.

This report provides an assessment of trends in water quantity, water quality and a range of biological indicators (where sufficient monitoring data exist). It also provides a benchmark for future assessments.
