Widespread rainfall following the intense summer in early 2020 resulted in much improved air quality. Particle levels at Muswellbrook and Singleton within national benchmarks on 95% and 97% of days respectively, compared with 84% and 88% of days in 2019.

Dust storms along with extensive bushfire smoke, and particles from local industrial dust sources greatly affected air quality early in the year, however, widespread heavy rainfall from mid-February brought improved air quality.
