The Dharawal Resting Place was nominated for gazettal as an Aboriginal place in 2001 by the Dharawal Elders Group and the La Perouse Local Aboriginal Land Council. The Dharawal Resting Place Aboriginal Place was subsequently declared in 2005. Since that time, it has been managed as part of the broader Kamay Botany Bay National Park of which it is part. In 2013, the national park, including the Dharawal Resting Place, was listed on the State Heritage Register.
