Conservation investment strategies

A conservation investment strategy identifies key strategic priorities in a region to protect and restore biodiversity values and improve connectivity and resilience.

By identifying key priorities, strategies seek to guide investments being made into conservation in a region. Significant and ongoing investment in conservation is expected as part of biodiversity offsetting associated with the development of renewable energy zones and implementation of the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap. Conservation investment may also occur through other NSW programs and partnerships with government and non-government organisations. This creates an opportunity to coordinate investment to optimise conservation outcomes.

Conservation investment strategies include actions to:

  • protect and restore biodiversity values
  • improve habitat connectivity
  • support resilience to climate change
  • deliver in-perpetuity conservation outcomes
  • benefit landholders.

These strategies underpin the implementation of strategic offset delivery agreements, which will be guided by the priority areas and actions for investment that are identified for each region.

Conservation investment strategies are intended to be refined over time through a continuous improvement process to strengthen supporting analysis, improve prioritisation of investment across programs, and seek and incorporate knowledge and feedback from Aboriginal peoples, communities and delivery partners.
