Assessor accreditation training

Before you can apply to become an accredited assessor, you must complete the accredited assessor training course. This training is competency-based, and to become accredited you will be required to demonstrate:

• knowledge of the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme
• competency in the use of the Biodiversity Assessment Method, including field survey data to identify and map plant community types and threatened ecological communities, and identify areas of habitat for threatened species
• competency in using the Biodiversity Assessment Method Calculator.

About the course

There are 2 parts to the training course:

• Part 1 – Pre-learning: Twelve eLearning modules and associated assessment tasks – completed before attendance at the face-to-face webinars. We will send you more information about how to access these modules in the month before the course.
• Part 2 – Face-to-face webinar: A 3-day webinar and a compulsory one-day field day (own transport required). You will be assigned assessment tasks to be finished shortly after the course (dates provided below).

Assessment tasks: You will need to complete the assessment tasks outside of course hours and submit these within 5 days after the course ends. We recommend you allow time to complete these assessment tasks, which include questions and preparing credit calculations for a case study. You may be required to complete a second attempt on any outstanding questions.

Fees and charges

In the 2026–27 financial year, the 4-day course fee is $4,000.

Please review the accreditation criteria, particularly the demonstration of technical skills, and familiarise yourself with the accreditation application form (DOCX 140KB). This will ensure that you are aware of the requirements you need to demonstrate for your application to be successful.

Registration steps

To register and pay to attend these courses, please create an account in the BOS Portal. You can then select which course you wish to attend in the BOS Portal.

The course schedule may be amended if insufficient enrolments are received for a particular training webinar. In this event, the BAM Training and Accreditation Team will contact students no later than one month before the course to amend their enrolment.
