Before you embark on accreditation training
Please consider if you need to become an accredited assessor to complete your work. Becoming an accredited assessor requires a significant investment. You do not need to be accredited to:
- prepare general flora and fauna reports including targeted surveys, site management plans or undertaking pre-clearing surveys
- support field work that contributes to the application of the Biodiversity Assessment Method.
Accreditation to apply the Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) is required if your role includes finalising assessment data in the BAM-C and certifying biodiversity assessment reports.
Assessor accreditation training
To become an accredited assessor to apply the Biodiversity Assessment Method, you must complete the accredited assessor training course before you can apply for accreditation. This training is competency-based, requiring you to demonstrate:
- knowledge of the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme
- competency in the use of the Biodiversity Assessment Method, including allocating plant community types and threatened ecological communities based on field data collection
- competency in using the Biodiversity Assessment Method Calculator.
Registering for the course
There are 2 parts to the training course. When registering, you commit to both parts:
- Part 1: Twelve eLearning modules and associated assessment tasks – completed within 2 months of enrolment. In the month prior to the course, we will send you more information about how to access these modules.
- Part 2: A 3-day webinar, a compulsory one-day field day (own transport required), and assessment tasks to be finished shortly after the course (dates provided below). You will need to complete the assessment tasks outside course hours and submit within 5 days of the course. You may be required to complete a second attempt on any outstanding questions.
Fees and charges
- Part 1: approximately $600 – we will notify you with more information about this about this one month prior to the course.
- Part 2: approximately $3,000.00 for FY24-25 (25% discount) and approximately $4,000.00 from 1 July 2025, payable to the department.
Registration steps
Due to the high demand for these courses we will continue to place participants into a course via an expression of interest list.
To express your interest in training please use the EOI BOS main training Part 2 form. As places and courses become available, we notify people on the list via email.
Before registering
Please review the accreditation criteria above, particularly the demonstration of technical skills – and familiarise yourself with the accreditation application form (DOCX 138KB). This will ensure that you are aware of the requirements you need to demonstrate for your application to be successful.
