- The construction of the new ferry wharves at Kurnell and La Perouse continues, led by Transport for NSW. For the latest updates, visit the official project website.
- These construction activities will require closures at affected visitor precincts. Please check NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service visitor alerts when planning your visit.
Project update: Royal National Park
- The Wattamolla Beach track upgrade is complete. The new track provides improved access for visitors to Wattamolla Beach and Lagoon, two of the most popular destinations in Royal National Park.
- Work on the repair of Garie Beach Road has commenced. Work is being coordinated by Transport for NSW and is scheduled for completion in 2025. Until the roadworks are complete, Garie Beach precinct remains closed to visitors.
- Construction of a new track over Garie Headland will commence in the second half of this year. Following the completion of repair work to Garie Beach Road and the reopening of the visitor precinct, the new track will link the visitor precinct to Little Garie and the southern sections of the Royal Coast Track and the Great Southern Walk.
- A section of track at Burning Palms between the Burning Palms Surf Club and beach was completed in June 2024. This track has been used for many years by visitors and surf club members to access the beach or when heading to Figure 8 Pools. The track was in poor condition with extensive erosion. The new track includes an elevated board walk and stone steps which provide an easier and more pleasant walking surface for visitors accessing this part of the park.
- Track works in the vicinity of Palm Jungle have been progressing well with work currently underway near Werrong Lookout. Some sections of completed work have been heavily impacted by severe storms earlier in 2024 and will require repair prior to being reopened to visitors. All track works between Burning Palms and Otford are expected to be completed by early 2025.
- Planning for the new track connection from Otford Lookout to Bald Hill is underway.
Progress update: Illawarra Escarpment State Conservation Area
