What’s this about?

The NSW Government is seeking feedback on the draft Koala Conservation Strategy, which sets out targeted actions to protect koalas and their habitat across the state.

What is changing?

The draft strategy adopts a landscape-scale approach to koala conservation. This approach recognises that, to protect koalas, we must protect and restore the ecosystems they depend on.

The draft strategy identifies key koala populations and outlines a toolbox of conservation actions that can be applied to address key threats to koalas.

The strategy will be delivered through the Saving our Species framework, ensuring koala conservation is integrated with other threatened species conservation efforts across the state.

Why are we seeking feedback?

Koala conservation requires collective action. Your feedback will help shape the final strategy, ensuring it is practical, effective and informed by local knowledge.

We want to hear from communities, landholders, conservation groups, Aboriginal stakeholders, government agencies, researchers and anyone with an interest in koala conservation.

The strategy will be published alongside an Implementation Plan, which will translate key priorities into targeted, on-ground actions. This will provide a clear roadmap for coordinated delivery by government agencies, conservation partners and local communities. We are interested in what level of detail you think should be in the Implementation Plan.

What happens after the consultation closes?

All public submissions will be reviewed and considered before the strategy is published. Feedback will also inform the development of the Implementation Plan.
