Report koala sightings
Spotting a wild koala is exciting and each sighting can make a real difference to koala conservation. By reporting your koala sightings in our ‘I Spy Koala’ app, you help us track where they live, how many there are and where they need better protection.

Watch out for koalas when driving
Koalas often cross roads at dawn, dusk and at night, which puts them at high risk of being hit by cars. By slowing down, staying alert and watching for signs you can help reduce collisions and keep koalas and other wildlife safe.

Protect koalas from dogs
Dog attacks are one of the most preventable threats to koalas, yet they continue to cause serious harm each year, especially in urban areas. By taking a few simple precautions, dog owners can protect koalas, local wildlife and their pets.

Help sick and injured koalas
If you see a koala stay on the ground or at the base of a tree for a long time, it may be sick or injured.
Signs of a sick koala can include:
- infected and/or inflamed eyes, which indicates conjunctivitis
- a wet and dirty bottom, which indicates cystitis
- unusual behaviour such as sitting hunched over on the ground, walking in an abnormal way, appearing unresponsive when approached or sitting low in a tree for more than a few days.
If you see an injured, sick or distressed koala, call a licensed wildlife rescue and rehabilitation provider for advice as soon as possible. These providers are permitted to take distressed or injured koalas into care.
