Visiting Light to Light Walk
The new Light to Light Walk continues to welcome local, state and international visitors, with walkers enjoying the upgraded track, new track sections and new hike-in campgrounds at Mowarry Point and Hegartys Bay.
October is a great time to catch the end of the whale migration season, with plenty of whale sightings from the track and campgrounds. Summer is also a perfect time to plan the walk, with longer days and opportunities to cool down along the way.
Beaches in Beowa National Park are unpatrolled, so it is important to follow beach safety advice to stay safe while swimming. Visitors are reminded to always check NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service alerts for the latest information and notifications before visiting Beowa National Park.
Bookings can be made on the Light to Light webpage.
Update on Upgrades to Green Cape Lightstation Precinct
The Lightstation cottage and Telegraph Station accommodation are currently closed to visitors from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026 while the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) undertakes upgrades to these buildings. Green Cape car park, lookout and surrounding walking tracks will remain open during this time.
Works have commenced on Stage 1 of the Green Cape Cottages’ internal refurbishment and roof replacement. Scaffolding for roofing and painting works has been installed at the Head Lightkeeper’s building, and the old kitchens and bathrooms in the cottages have been demolished. External timber repairs, plumbing and electrical works are now in progress.
Stage 1 works are estimated to be complete in early 2026, subject to weather and other potential construction delays.
NPWS is continuing to plan for Stage 2 of the upgrade works. These works are critical for safety, and access to the Green Cape Lightstation Precinct and include a services upgrade and remediation of a landslip that occurred in 2022.
Green Cape Lighthouse Reinstatement
NPWS is continuing to work in collaboration with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority to reinstate the Green Cape Lighthouse.
The project will also involve the removal of the steel lattice tower erected in 1988 that currently serves as the active navigation structure within the Green Cape Lightstation Precinct.
The lighthouse remains open for Discovery Tours. Further information will be provided about any necessary closures.
