Light to Light Walk: update May 2025

Spectacular upgraded Light to Light Walk now open

Light to Light Walk is now open

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service are pleased to announce the opening of the upgraded Light to Light Walk, a spectacular 32 km coastal walk in Beowa National Park.

The upgrades include 2 new walk-in campgrounds, improvements and realignments of existing track, new track construction, repairs of tracks damaged by bushfire and storms, and rehabilitation of track sections no longer required.

Visitors can now walk from historic Boyds Tower to Green Cape Lighthouse on the newly upgraded track, and experience new tracks connecting rock platforms and rugged coastal clifftops between Bittangabee Bay and Green Cape.

You can find everything you need to know about the walk on the National Parks and Wildlife Service Light to Light webpage, including:

  • highlights and photos
  • detailed maps and track notes for each day
  • self-guided and guided experience opportunities
  • booking and safety information.

National Parks and Wildlife Service would like to thank all community members and stakeholders for their active involvement and interest in this unique project. We have appreciated the valuable feedback and patience while the work was completed.

National Parks and Wildlife Service will continue to monitor visitor feedback and make adjustments where possible so that we continue to provide a world-class walking experience for national park visitors.

Before visiting Beowa National Park, remember to always check for the latest information and notifications at the National Parks and Wildlife Service alerts webpage.

Camping along the Light to Light Walk

Mowarry and Hegartys campgrounds both include 10 new camping platforms and remote toilet facilities for walkers undertaking the Light to Light Walk. Those wishing to stay at these campgrounds must book online via the National Parks and Wildlife Service website.

Camping options are also available at Saltwater Creek and Bittangabee campground for those walkers wishing to create their own itinerary. These options are also suitable for visitors wishing to undertake the Light to Light Walk as a series of day walks.

Works at Green Cape Lightstation Precinct

National Parks and Wildlife Service are progressing plans for upgrade works to improve the safety, access and amenity of the Green Cape Lightstation Precinct.

Stage 1 internal refurbishment and roof replacement of the Lightstation cottages are planned for 2025. The works are expected to commence in mid-2025 and be complete in late 2025, weather permitting.

During this time, the Lightstation cottages accommodation will be closed to visitors. Green Cape car park, lookout and surrounding walking tracks will remain open.

A Stage 2 services upgrade and landslip repair will follow the completion of the Stage 1 works. These works are required to upgrade the gas, electrical and sewerage systems and to remediate a landslip that occurred in 2022.

Stage 2 works are currently in the planning stage, with approvals to be obtained. National Parks and Wildlife Service will facilitate further consultation with key stakeholders regarding timeframes of the Stage 2 works.

For up-to-date information on closures relating to the ongoing Green Cape Lightstation Precinct works, please see National Parks and Wildlife Service alerts webpage.
