The Native Vegetation Regulatory map shows land categories defined under the Local Land Services Act 2013 which determine:

• where clearing does not require approval
• where approval may be needed
• where clearing is limited or not permitted.

Why the Native Vegetation Regulatory map exists

The land categories defined in the Local Land Services Act have been regulated across rural land in New South Wales since 2017. The Native Vegetation Regulatory map supports the consistent application of land management rules across New South Wales. It makes it easier to:

• identify land categories on your property
• understand how legislation applied on your land
• make informed decisions about managing native vegetation.

How the Native Vegetation Regulatory map helps you

Simplify self-assessment and plan with confidence

The map helps you quickly identify land categories without needing to interpret complex legal definitions in the Local Land Services Act and Local Land Services Regulation.

You can use the map to guide your native vegetation management planning and help avoid accidental breaches. For example:

• category 1 (exempt land): Clearing native vegetation does not require approval.
• category 2 (regulated land): You may need approval from Local Land Services.

How to view your map

You can view how land is categorised on your property using the Check My Land NSW app or the web-based map viewer.

Check My Land NSW app

The Check My Land NSW app lets you:

• view your current location on the map
• explore land categories across your property
• access information about each land category
• submit enquiries to the Map Review Team.

Web-based map viewer

The Native Vegetation Regulatory map viewer lets you:

• search for your property (for example, by lot/DP)
• view land categories across your landholding
• explore mapping layers and data
• print a map for your records.

Use the 'Identify' tool in the viewer to click on an area and see detailed information about how it is mapped.

The Bland and Temora local government areas remain in the transitional map stage and are identified in the NVR map viewer with a white diagonal overlay.

The role of Local Land Services in land management

The Local Land Services Act requires publication of a native vegetation regulatory map that shows all land categories defined in the legislation.

NSW Local Land Services provides advice on clearing native vegetation on rural land for agricultural purposes, including what activities are allowed, when approval is needed, any self-assessment pathways and land management options.
