2017 legislation introduced a balanced approach to land management and biodiversity conservation in NSW. The Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and the Local Land Services Act 2013 began on 25 August 2017 to support sustainable development and productive farming that responds to environmental risk.

The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, the former Office of Environment and Heritage, Local Land Services and the Biodiversity Conservation Trust each administer components of the new legislation. Visit the NSW Government’s land management and biodiversity conservation reform website for information about the scope of the changes.
