Request a free category report or map review
Category report
We can provide a category report which includes detailed information explaining why areas are mapped as certain land categories on your land. The report includes maps displaying all land category areas that relate to your property.
After you receive your category report, our team is available to discuss the mapping with you and any issues or concerns you may have. The team can also help you determine if a map review may be right for you.
We recommend requesting a category report before applying for a map review. A category report often clarifies concerns about why land categories are applied to your property and can sometimes resolve the need for a map review.
Map review
If you feel the land category mapping on your land is incorrect, you can apply for a map review. A map review officer will work with you to identify the types of information that can support your review.
We will verify your relationship with the land and ask you to identify the specific areas you want reviewed, the reasons for review and historical land management information. You may also want us to consider farm records such as: approximate dates of past clearing or cultivation events, previous clearing consents such as property vegetation plans or other information you may have.
For some applications, the Map Review Team may contact you to schedule a site inspection, with your permission. For example, a threatened species expert may need to assess the vegetation on your property when considering if species or species habitat is present. Your map review officer will provide you with information about the process and will work with you and keep you informed throughout.
Advice explaining the outcome of your map review, including before and after maps of your landholding, will be provided to you, usually within 40 business days.
If you disagree with the determination outcome, you can request a further review if you have any new information, or you can appeal to the Land and Environment Court. Any application to the Land and Environment Court must be made within 90 days of the map review determination being made by the department.
