This study has been commissioned to provide a strategic overview of the various structures that make up the widespread collection of fortification sites around Sydney and Botany Bay that are under the control of National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS).

This master plan supports and complements the strategic framework and policies of the Sydney Harbour National Park Plan of Management 2012.

The Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) has prepared a draft master plan for the Middle Head and Georges Head precincts of Sydney Harbour National Park.

The management of 10 historic lighthouses located along the NSW coastline is covered in this plan. Most are within or adjacent to national parks, reserves, marine parks or state conservation areas.

South Head forms the southern edge of the entrance to Sydney Harbour. Most of the area has been a national park since 1977, with Gap Bluff added in 1982. The site has rich natural and cultural heritage values, including at least 11 Aboriginal sites.

Cadmans Cottage Historic Site is located at 110 George Street at the corner of George and Argyle Streets, The Rocks, Sydney on the western shore of Circular Quay. It occupies 0.093 hectares of land between George and Quay Streets and is bounded by Bligh Park to the south and the Sydney Sailors Home site to the north.

Goat Island is of national and state heritage significance for its exceptional ensemble of built, natural and archaeological features that represent three important historical periods within one place: Aboriginal (pre-1830), colonial (1830-1900), and maritime (1901-1993). The island retains its isolation from the city and surrounding foreshore development.

The site of these historic buildings covers a large area of the headland at Middle Head, in Sydney Harbour. The structures were built between 1870 and 1945 to support the defence of Sydney Harbour. Many of the buildings were demolished before the site was made part of Sydney Harbour National Park in 1980.

Nielsen Park is a 20-hectare waterfront reserve in Vaucluse, a harbourside suburb of Sydney, that was incorporated into Sydney Harbour National Park in 1968. The park has regional and local significance because of its rich and diverse cultural, social, aesthetic and natural values. These values include Aboriginal sites, remnant bush, and a range of buildings and structures including the Victorian gothic villa, Greycliffe House.

Fort Denison is located 500 metres north-east of Mrs Macquarie's Point and north-west of Garden Island, within the waters of Port Jackson. The place is close to the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The site consists of Lot numbers 1 and 2 of DP837196.

The following plans outline the direction for the management of the conservation and adaptive reuse project of the North Head Quarantine Station in Sydney Harbour National Park.

This plan of management describes how the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will conserve the natural and cultural heritage of the park while providing unique and enriching experiences for visitors to Sydney Harbour. The park is one of the smaller national parks in New South Wales. At just under 400 hectares it sits within a protected areas system totalling around 7 million hectares of land.
