UrbanSalt 2010 Conference

 

The 2010 UrbanSalt Conference "Dealing with Salinity in Urban Environments" will take place at The Sebel Parramatta, NSW on the 8th and 9th June, 2010.  This conference follows on from the extremely successful previous UrbanSalt Conferences held in 2005 and 2007. The Conference is being sponsored by the Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils and DECCW.

The 2010 UrbanSalt Conference aims to:

• Increase the understanding of all of the issues that relate to urban salinity across local government, state government agencies and the building and construction industry.
• Provide delegates with an increased level of understanding of salinity issues from the “green fields” planning stage to the post development stage.
• Provide delegates with the knowledge, motivation and skills required to continue to develop effective projects that will reduce the effect of salinity in urban environments.
• Provide delegates with ample opportunity to participate and share knowledge on this issue during the two days of the conference.
• Encourage the development of networks across a range of sectors that can be strengthened after the conference.
  

The Conference Schedule will include presentations that focus on urban salinity issues highlighting current research and practices; where and why urban salinity occurs; land planning processes; water management; effects of salinity on infrastructure; how to assess and remediate impacts on new and heritage dwellings; and messages for future management of impacts.

The conference will provide an opportunity to learn from the experts in urban salinity from around Australia.  The conference will be attended by key decision makers from local government, state and federal government agencies, representatives of catchment management authorities, environmental scientists, geotechnical officers, landscape architects, builders and developers, engineers, damp proofing contractors and building repairers.
