Wild Horse Community Advisory Panel appointed
Appointments have now been finalised for membership of the Kosciuszko National Park Wild Horse Community Advisory Panel following a merit-based assessment process.
Head of the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service Atticus Fleming said the seven-member panel will be an important source of independent advice on key matters relating to the implementation of the Kosciuszko National Park Wild Horse Heritage Management Plan.
'It means the NSW Government will have access to local and expert advice on a range of matters including welfare issues, horse behaviour, the heritage significance of horses, and ecological and heritage impacts,' Mr Fleming said.
This will continue to ensure, consistent with the requirements of the Kosciuszko Wild Horse Heritage Act 2018, a balance between protecting heritage values of a sustainable wild horse population and the ecological values of Kosciuszko National Park,' he said.
'Wild horse management in Kosciuszko National Park will benefit from the range of community perspectives now available through this panel.
'I am pleased that we have a panel in place which can provide independent advice to the NSW Government on any concerns about wild horse management raised by the community.'
The panel will be Chaired by John Pierce AO, an eminent and respected former public official who has led state and federal government agencies.
In addition to Mr Pierce, expertise and experience across the panel includes recreation, tourism, veterinary science, conservation, agriculture and wild horse rehoming and advocacy.
Summaries of the Kosciuszko National Park Wild Horse Community Advisory Panel meeting outcomes will be made publicly available on the Department of Planning and Environment's Environment and Heritage website.
