Perisher Range Resorts and Charlotte Pass market engagement

The NSW Government is inviting engagement from qualified domestic and international participants as it seeks to identify potential management models to deliver innovative approaches to the long-term sustainability of the Perisher Range Resorts and Charlotte Pass (the Resorts). The Perisher Range Resorts include the areas of Perisher Valley, Smiggin Holes, Guthega and Blue Cow.

The Resorts

The Resorts are located within Kosciuszko National Park and together, form one of the largest ski operations in the Southern Hemisphere. The Resorts offer an exciting opportunity given the significant inbound tourist growth in Australia. This presents the potential for: improved year-round resort activation; additional development, including the development of Perisher village and infill ski lodge developments subject to planning and environmental approvals.

Vision

Through the engagement of the private sector, the vision is to create a world-class, environmentally sustainable year-round alpine destination. More specifically, the NSW Government seeks to:

  • identify a management model that will deliver year-round visitation and attractions while balancing the protection of the sensitive alpine environment
  • ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the Resorts
  • enhance the important economic and social benefits that the Resorts provide to the local community and the New South Wales economy
  • establish the Resorts as a world class, best practice year-round recreational alpine destination.

Process

The NSW Government is looking forward to hearing from leading domestic and international participants interested in the potential opportunities that the Resorts offer. Market engagement is the first part of this process. An expression of interest (EOI) process is now underway and is being managed by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

Following the EOI process, the management review will be completed and a preferred management model will be approved. While a Senior Officers' Group will have oversight of the management review and make a recommendation about the best management model for the Resorts, the final decision will be made by government.
