Reservation in an IBRA bioregional context

The map displayed below describes the level of reservation within NSW, for each bioregion (IBRA v7). A bioregion is an area of related ecosystems. There are 18 bioregions in NSW, some of them well-represented in the reserve system, others not. This map suggests that poorly conserved bioregions are found primarily in the centre and western areas of the State.

Note:  Reservation statistics are inclusive of all reserve categories under the NSW NPW Act. Marine or estuarine parts of some reserves may be excluded from the calculations as they fall outside the largely terrestrial IBRA mapping.
